Incheon Airport to Hongdae:
AREX or Airport Bus with Luggage?
Hongdae is well connected to the airport rail, but a direct rail link is not automatically the easiest option when your hotel sits far from the station or you have heavy luggage.

Choose AREX when your accommodation is genuinely convenient to the station and you can manage the final walk. Choose an airport bus when it stops closer to your hotel and removes a difficult last leg.
Map the final 10–15 minutes
Airport-transfer comparisons often stop at the station. Your real route ends at the hotel entrance, so measure the walk, stairs, street crossings and the exact station exit.
Count luggage handling
One large suitcase can change the decision. Rail is predictable, but platforms, lifts and the final street walk can feel very different after a long-haul flight.
Use hotel location as the tie-breaker
Two hotels both described as Hongdae can have very different airport access. Check the exact address before deciding that one mode is automatically best.
Compare arrivals hall → hotel door. If AREX wins only to the station but loses on the last leg, the airport bus can be the better transfer.
Decision checklist
- Distance from Hongik University Station to the hotel
- Distance from the nearest airport-bus stop
- Number and size of bags
- Arrival time and service availability
- Whether you would need a local taxi after either option
FAQ
Is AREX the obvious choice for Hongdae?
It is often convenient, but not for every hotel address.
When does the airport bus make more sense?
When it drops you materially closer to the hotel or reduces difficult luggage handling.
Practical example
A hotel five minutes from Hongik University Station may make AREX the obvious choice. Another property marketed as Hongdae may be a longer walk with hills or busy streets but sit close to an airport-bus stop. The neighborhood label is the same; the best transfer can be different.
Before you leave Incheon
Save the hotel address, nearest station exit and nearest airport-bus stop before landing. That lets you choose between AREX and the bus using the real last leg instead of making the decision from the arrivals hall while tired and carrying luggage.
